about Thanks For Water

Thanks for Water is a yearly fundraiser that began in 2007. I decided then that I wanted to build a water project in a third world country every year for the rest of my life. Each year around Thanksgiving time I ask friends and family to donate to a specific project. Donations are collected through CHOICE Humanitarian and are tax deductible. Please help me to help others.

thanks for water

1 in 10 children dies before the age of 5. One of the reasons is disease spread through contaminated water. Access to clean water is a gateway to bringing people out of poverty. It decreases risk of disease and provides a healthier and better quality of life for people. I believe this is one of the most critical first steps to help people in need.

I want to build a water project in a third world country every year for the rest of my life starting this year. Please help me celebrate the Thanksgiving season by giving "Thanks for Water". Donations will be accepted starting November 1st through Thanksgiving weekend.

The project I have chosen this year is to help finish a community water system in Nueva Concepcion, Guatemala. This water system will serve 367 people. The cost to finish this project is $2500. I will make up the difference in what is not raised to make this happen, but I don't think it will be too much. I think if we all donate $25-$50 and spread the word to friends and family then with a lot of people giving a little bit we can make it happen. My hope is that this fundraising event will gain enough momentum through the years to build multiple or larger water projects every year.
Go to the CHOICE Humanitarian website to donate. Be sure to type "Thanks for Water" in the Donation Purpose box in order for the money to do directly to this water project and so I can track the progress.

I will provide weekly updates of the success of this fundraiser. It's amazing what we can do when we all join together. Even if you can only donate $10, it will add up. A little bit will go a long way to provide a healthier, better quality of life for people around the world. Please share this blog with your family and friends.

THANK YOU,

Judy

Judy...I LOVE your blog and I totally applaud your fundraising efforts. This is exactly the kind of thing that CHOICE encourages.

Everyone can do something and, for many of us, that 'something' is not always writing that 'big' check. It's the little donations and the smaller efforts that can make 'big' things happen.

You have chosen an excellent way to leverage your donations to make a major impact in a rural community. Finishing this water project in Guatemala makes you a player in the 'bigger picture' of what we like to call a 'self developing village'

Only through efforts like you and others can we help these communities find the 'keys' to real sustainable change.

Nueva Concepcion is only 1 of many CHOICE villages that we are actively involved in trying to facilitate this transition from poverty to 'self development.'

Thanks again to you and all of your friends and family that participate in this fundraising effot. Good luck!!

hi Val,

The first picture is one of the actual project in Guatemala that needs to be finished. The other picture is from my expedition to Kenya in September. That one did not have a water project, but I put my face on here so people would know who I am.
